But now, we’re sure glad we did.
Hi! We’re Jordan and Josie Hirschfeld: lifelong South Dakotans, founders of Stay in the Black Hills, and parents to four sweet kids.
When we got married, we had big dreams, like most young couples. But life threw some curve balls at us. After one too many job changes, some unexpected bills, and not enough money to raise a family, we said, “That’s it!”
We decided to try our hand at earning some extra money by renting our home on Airbnb. We got to work renovating our space, bought some extra furniture, and moved into our unfinished basement.
We hoped we could make a couple hundred bucks… but we were blown away by our success!
After digging deeper into the short-term rental industry and the local market, we realized there was a need for vacation property management in the Black Hills. So we started a management firm.
We’ve learned a lot about the business through our personal experience (both mistakes and victories). We bring all those lessons to our rental properties at Stay in the Black Hills. We’re proud to say we have now hosted 80 property owners and 90,000 happy guests in the area — and counting!
